Do yall think chickens are smart little critters or do you think they 'dont even know they are in this world' (stated by a guy on another forum)

I take it on an individual basis. I have had some that I thought were smart and also some that were dumb as a box of rocks!

Yup, it's selective. They do all have a certain amount of recognition and feeling, though. They're not feathered bugs.

I don't think of mine "smart" as much as know the routine and thier place in it.

For example it's Evan's job to water them, so when he comes around the corner, they know watering shall begin. The other kids bring them weeds and treats, so they chirp for goodies soon as they come into view.

mine know to run at the gate the second i come out cause they know i usually have a treat for em, and they know if i head to one part of the yard to race to theyre favorite plant so i can go give em theyre favroite leaves
