I went out to feed the chickens this evening & one appears to have an injury to her comb. Its in the back part, half-ripped & dangling. Its black in the area where its torn, almost as if its been singed. She definitely was not singed today, as the weather is mild & they were in their run all day. She's a red sexlink, a little over 1 year old. I'm not sure when it happened, but am just noticing it. Any thoughts on what it could be & treatment? Thanks

Blood bleeds red and dries black. I'm sure it's just an injury and not being singed. When my rooster lost half his wattle I just took the dubbing shears and cut it clean off. I've also had roosters get injuries that healed just fine when left alone.

I would separate her, as it very likely that the others will begin to pick at her. Since it is ripped, it may begin to bleed again. It would be best if you could go to a vet to get it removed. However, if it does not bleed again, the comb will probably heal on its own.
Good luck!
