Wounds not closing & diarrhea — 5+ weeks

Appreciate the update. Good progress. You've been working hard at it and it's paying off. Serious wounds take weeks to heal, but I think she's got a good shot at it now.
Thank you, azygous! I’ve learned a lot from you! I repeated what you said—about death hurting more than debridement—many, many times as I pulled necrotic tissues out despite my queasiness. Three months later and her wounds are finally closed. I know it would have been faster in healing had I debrided it that first month!

You did good! We sometimes are afraid to be as aggressive in treatment as we need to be because we think chickens are such fragile creatures. As your new mantra says, " Death hurts worse".

Very inspiring! Gives me hope for my hen that was recently attacked.
I’m glad it encourages you! We thought our girl wouldn’t make it when the sounds were getting bigger instead of healing… even with daily rinsing & creams. It was after I began adding in debridement regularly that we saw healing really take off. Silver lost a lot of weight too, but she’s regaining it now. Good luck with your hen! 🥰

332 days after the attack— Silver has resumed laying!!
She laid her first egg in almost a year last night! 💕 🥚 Our only green layer is back in business—though we love her the same even if she never laid again.

(She’s the only standard sized hen in the bantam pullet coop. She walks with limp, so we keep her in the bantam flock. (smaller birds, younger birds, and fewer birds) attached group pic is from March)
