Wow!!! 2 !!!

I think feeding has a lot to do with eggs. Mine get a basic pellet feed... plus daily treats of yogurt, spinach leaves, strawberries... I shop the discount rack of "almost bad" veggies for them at the store since my yard is lacking in weeds and.. grass even. Dry summer and dogs make dirt. The Cochins had a very thin shell when I got them... not anymore. Not too thick... just right. The Stars had good shell, but small in size, and not "even"... had bumps/lumps in the shape. Now they're large and perfect. Astralorp laid through her molt. The Hampshire tries... 1 egg every 3-4 days in mid molt. Frizzle started yesterday after coming out of her issues of "rooster rash", cage stress, and molt on top of it all. Took her 3 weeks in my care to start laying. Now I'm waiting out the babies, 2-3 months I think. Not sure, never owned Black Spanish before.

But happy well fed birds sure do lay like clock work!

A third reason is just genetics. . . I had 3 leghorn sisters. 1 of the three laid a double yolker on a pretty regular basis. She ate the same foods as the other 20 birds in the flock, but she was the only one to lay a double yolker. About once a month she would surprise us with a double yolker. . . .
