WOW! A little kindness goes a long way

Definitely came from a poor home environment. Made me wonder if it was some misguided persons attempt to keep it from flying away. I know that clipping one wing on a parrot is pretty common.

how can you tell he came from a poor environment ? his color looks good to me , he just looks like he is molting . Just cause his wings might be clipped does not mean he was plucked also. I just wondered

Speculation on all of our parts for sure but my thought is if it was a happy environment he would have not run away. The picture posted was a spring time picture and he should have had his train. Among the possibilities are that someone tried to catch him and pulled his train out. I accidently did that to a pheasant many years ago. Or perhaps an animal, but the wing clipping looks to me to have been done on purpose in an attempt to keep him from flying. On a caged bird, parrots etc. that is fine, but to me an animal that need to be able to escape danger should never be clipped on one wing.

Clipping both wings is a better alternative as it will limit the distance the bird can fly but still give it a chance to get away from a predator. When we go camping I will trim one of my African Greys because he is a good flyer, the other one is not so flight worthy so she is not clipped. A free ranging outside bird I would not clip.

Those are some sad baby pictures, I hope they survived.

True , i could not tell when the photo was taken in front of the door there is no grass in the background but i know this is what mine look like when they molt.
the babies are beautiful now.

These are the all the males excet the big one on the upper right he will be 3 in july.
