That's great! On the first night!

We had to play "Chuck the Chicken" for the first three nights until they got the idea. Even then, we still have to run about flapping our arms to get them to go to bed. Now that they are free ranging most of the day, they sort of mingle by the door, but when they see me coming out to lock up, they scatter. Guess they like to party a little longer than I prefer.

I'm just an overprotective parent.

When I checked at 8:20 they were all inside the coop and in their pjs, ready for bed. It looked like Luna had just finished reading them a bedtime story. I ran back to the house for my camera but the battery died so you'll just have to take my word for it how cute they looked. I guess it' s officially a trend.

The only problem is, I used to move them one by one from their daytime play-pen back into their brooder every night and spend a moment cuddling and talking to each one of them and now I don't have that excuse.

) have been in the coop since Memorial Day weekend. It took them about 3 days to figure out when to go to the coop to sleep. They have been so good over the summer! By 8:40pm it's a ghost town in the run. So, they had grass up to ur knees in the run when they first went out and after about a month it was dead and gone! So, we go out every night around 8pm ish and let them out into the humans yard to scratch and peck each night and I close the door to the run and open the door to the coop. They come out, play around, we pet them and love on them, and then they go into the coop and put themselves to bed! They r such good girls. They love running around in the grass. I will take some pics tomorrow night and post them!

My whole point to this story was to say try to go out and stay for a little while with them and handle them and snuggle with them like u used to. They will still put themselves to bed and u can still spend that time with them.!!

Thanks, I was thinking something along the same lines that I'd just have to make a new routine of when I spend some quality time with them. There seems to be a time in the middle of the afternoon when they all settle down on the various roost in their run for a rest. Perhaps I'll go out and sit with them with a cup of coffee and a hand-full of oatmeal and "bond". By the way, my husband think's I've absolutely lost it. I point out that I could have done what my mom did when her children all hit puberty, which was start taking foster kids...hubby agrees that chickens are a better option!
