Wow my chicken layer crumbles went up two dollars AAAhh

Feed is going up everywhere due to the price increase on corn and other grains. A lady at my feed store told me that BOSS went up $8/50# recently as well, so it's not just corn.

The layer feed I buy is still relatively inexpensive, I pay $17-something for 100# bag of 20% layer pellets. The crumbled feeds cost more, they're at $9-something for layer crumbles and $11.50 for chick starter--both are 50# bags.

If corn goes up, milo, soybeans and everything else rises with the tide.
With oil knocking on $100 a barrel, inflation is everywhere. Get used to it.

Unlike pet owners, those who keep chickens with more of a livestock/farm interest are really squeezed. Feed conversion rates and egg production ratios are closely watched. We might have an affinity toward the pretty or classic breeds, but sadly, we simply cannot afford to feed them.

I'll trade prices with you. I pay more like $15 a bag.

Of course, my feed has to be special ordered in and it's 30% protein...

(And, if they've raised prices in the last two weeks, I haven't experienced it yet. Guess I should go in and snatch up all they have on hand for me before they realize it will be higher next time. They'll probably honor the old price.)
