We have 21 hens and one of my EE's starting laying 9 days ago she is 18 or 19 weeks old. We decide to eat the 6 eggs she has laid, they all had yolks including the first fairy egg. But the best part is two of the eggs are double yolk. she is definitely earning her keep. We are so excited, I'm going out to have a talk with the 20 other freeloaders

Double yolks are very common in young layers, their systems are sorting everything out and that often involves some hits and misses in getting all the moving parts, including ovaries, workng in proper order

Yeah, them double yolks are a nuisance. Most people just want the egg whites and feed them yolks back to the chickens anyway.
Yeah, who am I kidding, them yolks are the best part. I wish all my eggs were double yoke.
I am glad I came across this thread. I got a huge egg yesterday that I believe is a double yoke from my fifteen month old Golden Comets. 20170708_114728.jpg so I decided to take a picture before posting. I then decided to weigh it, 20170708_114038.jpg and it turned out to be the largest I ever got from these girls. The previous record was 3.35 oz 95 grams. This one is 101 grams.
So to answer your question, I got most of my double yolks the first month or two after they started to lay. GC
