Wrapped for Winter

Pics
I purchased the materials and made custom tarps to cover my run. It's reinforced polyethylene sheeting. I have snaps to hold it in place until I can screw on deck boards to pin it down against the vertical uprights of the run.

I put the sheeting up not to keep the snow out but to keep the wind out. That way the flock has a place to hang out on cold windy days even if there is no snow on the ground.

Hey Northerners!

Do you wrap your run to keep the snow out?

If you do, do you use tarps or clear plastic, or?
If you don't, why not?

And please, if you have photos, drop them! 😊
If had a solid roof I would use clear tarps for the walls.
But I don't so I just shovel out as necessary.

I have a roof over the run. I made wind block panels from leftover pieces of polycarbonate. In other places, I zip tie clear shower curtains. I cover the west and north sides (most of the wind) and the the bottom 2-3 feet on the south and east sides.

Last year we covered our run with cardboard-- as I had a supply from work. It was a hoop coop and I have an article with pictures on here. Used straw bales on north side. It was/is covered from snow.

Since we upgraded our run, we plan to wrap bottom/sides to block wind with a clear plastic drop sheets. We don't get much snow mainly just south bitter winds. We also put some furnace filter material over south vents on hen house(where they sleep) to minimize air. We also have some clear fiber glass plastic panels(for like roof/greenhouse) that we use on doors.

ETA: the cardboard and straw went to the garden

I wrap the south and north sides in cheap dollar store clear shower curtains. As well as under the coop. Notice that there is a large opening to allow airflow. This picture is a bit old. The plastic was not as see through as what is currently in use.
