Wrath's Marans

A newish egg today...sort of...maybe.
I think its Chloe coming off of weaning her Littles.

That's cool! It's so odd they can change their color so much.

Is there anything you can feed the chickens to impact egg color?
Thanks both Chloe and Momma (her Momma) don't lay a very dark egg. But Chloe is gorgeous and I need to hatch more from Momma. I'll work on her egg color. I'll find a couple pics of her normal color. But it's not unusual for my flock to start out light, then get darker, level off, and then lighten the further into laying season. Rinse and repeat....

No feed that I know of. I'd be feeding them dark chocolate if it did... I think it's all genetics.

Chloe is front row left. (Y/O). If I recall this was one of her first eggs. (All 6 were new layers) and at her peak she lays just about the same color as Momma, if not a tad lighter. I've read that sometimes the dark egg gene coming from Kong will sometimes skip a generation.
Example being all 3 in back row are sisters from Raven. W/blue on left layed the lightest, but I wouldn't have dismissed her just because of egg color. She had black eyes and that's a no breed forward combined with her light egg. I would have definitely kept her to backcross again because Raven is one of my darkest layers.

While I'm at it...that center front egg is Lil Black's. Black (her Dam) is my suspect Midnight Majesty as Lil Black has got lots of leakage as the MMMs don't breed true. But that egg color is staying and by backcrossing Lil Black I'll keep darkening the eggs and get back to pure Black Copper in her progeny.
