Christy's first 4 eggs, every other one has a greyish hue to them. The ones in the shade I think are closest to true color.
She's all over the map with color shade but I love 'em. It's exciting to see an Olive in a sea of brown.

They're really pretty! That's cool she's laying different shades too! Now to cross her back to a BCM and then cross that to an Ameraucana... oooh, the color possibilties!!!

I've gotten 4 different colors but they're all cool. Whatever she ends up laying, I'm happy with.
I know backcrossing to BCM will darken or lighten depending on egg color of roo.
But haven't read anything about Ameraucana x OE. Blue egg would lighten it depending on shade of blue? Or just funky blue/greenish shades?
Either way I'm game....

I need to find the EE / OE breeding charts, I know I've seen some good ones, like comparing using a dark brown egg rooster vs blue egg rooster and how it impacts the next generation colors.

Ooh, they explained the different crosses really well. So now I need a Welsummer roo from a heavily specled egg... I already have a cute black Ameraucana, that would be a good F1, then I could backcross to a BCM but more likely, I'll use what I have now and make EEs and not OEs, until 2026 when I'll have those Cuckoo Marans

I'll build a BCM coop and it will be filled with Brahmas, then I'll build a second BCM coop and it will be filled with Chonkers and some ladies, maybe by about the 5th BCM build coop it will actually remain available for BCMs

2 more eggs today, this time from the mixed flock.
One of our BAs has started laying again and got a 1st pullet egg (dbl. black band).
I still haven't figured out for certain what mix she is yet, just by going off egg color I'll guess BCM x BA, I think.
I hatched 2 BAs and 1 BR eggs, no copper yet showing on any of the 3, they all have slight leg feathering but I don't know the genes well enough to know if any BA genes could give me clues, other than her voice that sounds just like her mom. She's got that weird 'merrrrr' sound that Roady does.
Anyhoo here's a pic of dbl black and her 1st egg next to the BAs egg.
