I, by the way, talk a big knowledgeable game...but as we speak Jett and Lizzy are camping in the house being spoiled by the wife while I suffer the cold all day avoiding Kong trying to flog me from behind for not dropping the treats fast enough.

LOL very witty! So far the bachelors are doing well, I’ve got 3 happy as can be (considering they’re celibate). But Fred…it’s always Fred “hey, you need this boat rocked!” I put him with the boys, he said no, with the girls and my primary roo no, by himself no. I’ve got an 17lb baby!

I do try. He’s was out in the coop crowing and having a tantrum. I told him to stop, that his hens was staring at him! I was like “Fred! This is why Betty and Sheryl won’t give you the time of day. This right here!”
Sigh so he IS “special”. Maybe if I take the rocker out to the coop??

I’d argue that the crowing is a result from his confused body clock due to his strange habit, rather than a call for attention like a barking dog or crying child might be. I say this because chickens are pretty dumb, they remember some things but they don’t really have much capacity for cause and effect.

Maybe shutting him in to the coop at night, making sure it’s pitch black in there, and not buckling in, should eventually get him used to it and he will stop crowing at a more appropriate time of the day.

But then again, some chickens are just plain weird so I guess you will just have to try.
