NPIP testing in Montana is pretty different. My mom is one of the only testers in eastern or central Montana, so I get testing for free. She really wants me to take up the tester mantle, but i really don't want to. My daughter said she would do it once she turns 18 and legally can do it. My mom is a veterinarian, got her certificate 30 years ago mostly for game birds, but there is the occasional small time breeder who gets NPIP so they can show birds in other states, but I am the only consistent participant in this whole region. Western Montana has its own testers and NPIP participants. In my state, the blood testing is done every 3 years with all birds blood tested, and Avian Influenza tested for every 6 months with an choanal swab for a random 30 birds. Montana does not test for, nor has the laboratories for testing for, anything outside those two tests. Montana does not have a poultry industry, therefore a lot of states fuss about me sending live birds from Montana, but I have not had any fuss over eggs.
