Yes. Recessive white will retard the presence of any other feather colors.Ok I’m going to ask a stupid question, when you say the color underneath, do you mean hidden in the gene? Or literally underneath the white feathering?
CorrectFirst I love them! They’re beautiful. Poppy is a rooster correct?
What color legs and feet are your Leghorn? Marans are mid slate (grey), with pink showing. Feet are pinkish white. The US follows the French Standard which calls for Feathered shanks and outer toes. Single Comb. These are some of the tell tale signs of a Marans. How do you know he’s a Maran? He looks like my little leghorn. I’m not saying poppy is a leghorn, I’m saying/asking what are you looking for to know it’s a Maran? I’m trying to learn and I’m now so confused.
I'm happy you joined in with the beautiful pics. After the photography guy posted, I wanted to join in. Everything is just phone pics, no editing. I did, in fact, almost get a bachelor of arts, but decided I was waisting my time in college. It was a lot of fun, though!
I’ve always had a thing for turkeys. They’re big and gaudy, and make weird noises, they’re so silly, I just love them. (Although my granny had a one eyed turkey who was an absolute meanie). I want to get turkey’s eventually for no other reason than I just want them.Oh also, about the turkeys, I can only keep a limited number with the chickens because heritage turkeys are space hogs and they get real cranky if you don't have enough space for them. My turkeys are mostly free ranged, those two in the marans pen were there because they were young and the turkey flock was picking on them during the colder times. They have since rotated back out to the main flock. They roost in the rafters of my hay barn, and clean up my fields.
Ahhh ok so it’s all in the details! My leghorns legs are yellow. YELLOW. Ok right, the comb. Fred has what I’m guessing is a walnut comb. Gomez has a tall single comb. And I have a couple hens with pea combs. None are Marans, I’m just proud of my comb knowledgeCorrect

To bring it down just a bit. The Cuckoo variety is Barred. For simplicity, they look much like a Barred Rock.
If you were to post a pic of your Barred Rock and claim it's a Cuckoo Marans I can tell your wrong. Barred Rocks have yellow legs. Cuckoo Marans do not.
The other tells help identify mixes. If you post a picture of your Black Copper with a rose comb, it's not a Marans. Marans are Single Comb only.
If you want to see all the crazy, gaudy, ridiculous colors turkeys can be, there's an Austrian mathematician compiling a list of turkey geno and phenotypes on his website, turkey color genetics. com . It's all one word, but I'm pretty sure forums don't appreciate outside links. I have a few of mine represented, including the entry for tri-colored mottled slate, mottled black with Narragansett, and a blue winged NarragansettI’ve always had a thing for turkeys.
