Wrath's Marans

A white Maran?! Ooooo in my head, with very limited breed knowledge I thought marans were all copper…she’s very pretty.
You keep turkeys in the chicken coop? Do they get along? Are turkeys helpful with predators like geese are?
there's a whole list of accepted colors. none of mine have any copper at all! Turkeys can be helpful with some predators, probably in the same manner as geese since they are of similar size. Turkeys and chickens can be house together in my area because there is no blackhead here to kill the turkeys when house with chickens, something more moist climates with actual nightcrawlers have to deal with.

That's your mottled girl for a while. I remember her.
Have you tried breeding her yet to see what happens?
I am sure hers are in the mix of eggs collected and tossed in the bator on the regular. She has yet to tell me which egg is hers, however. I collect, and select the darkest, best shaped eggs regardless of who laid them, since I don't always entirely know >.>

Ohhh parasites, I had to google blackhead. I didn’t know you could mingle different fowl species. I thought turkeys have their own coop, geese have theirs and so on. I only have chickens, I know nothing. Thanks for the information!

Black, Black Copper, Wheaton and White are the only recognized colors in the American Poultry Association (APA).
Other varieties are Cuckoo, Silver Cuckoos, Golden Cuckoos, Birchen (Black Silver), Blue, Splash, Black Tailed Buff and Columbian.

Stolen from Google. Couldn't remember them all.

Those are last year's kids, but new kids will be born possibly starting in a week!

@z3lda3 ...
My Poppy and Solo are from @Bantambird.
I chose the BBS Silvers as my second flock because I would have been too overwhelmed trying to learn the Standard of Perfection (SOP) with my Black Coppers and an SOP for another breed.
The Black Silvers aren't a recognized APA variety, yet. But they follow the same Standard as Black Coppers.
And then of course I begged @Bantambird for her stunning Marans. ♥️

Ok wait. Dumb it down for me. How do you know it’s a Maran if there’s so many variations? For example I’ve got a white Cochin rooster, and Fred..he’s a.. nobody knows. Anyway my RSL hen hatched 2 boys that are definitely my Cochins. Fred wasn’t with the flock at the time, he was indoors. But look..you’d swear my cockerel belongs to Fred. So how do you know? Assuming you’re not hatching them yourself I mean.

I run the black silver, blue silver, splash (silver base) and recessive white marans. Genetically, there's is little difference between all 4 varieties. Add a single blue gene to black silver and you get blue silver. 2 blue genes gets you splash. The recessive white gene can hide in any line, it just masks any other color underneath, so under the white, they are still black silver, blue silver, or splash.

First I love them! They’re beautiful. Poppy is a rooster correct? How do you know he’s a Maran? He looks like my little leghorn. I’m not saying poppy is a leghorn, I’m saying/asking what are you looking for to know it’s a Maran? I’m trying to learn and I’m now so confused.

Ok I’m going to ask a stupid question, when you say the color underneath, do you mean hidden in the gene? Or literally underneath the white feathering?
