I'm glad everything is going smoothly! 🥰
Nowhere near smoothly...but it's going. 🤣

I caught this wiley and elusive predator in the live trap today... They seem to be pretty common around these parts and law dictates I can't relocate, I can only release on my own property.

I'll give her a pass this time.....🤪

Disclaimer....she was not harmed in any way, shape or form. I was working on the new grow out pen, and heard the trap trip. My fault for not tripping it this morning. 🤬

I've yet to butcher my own birds. But even if I did, and messed up the process, she would still taste far better than anything else I've ever caught in that trap... 😉

I had a brief stint where I wanted to try ground hog, then read abuot all the scent glands you had to be sure to cut out and decided it wasn't for me 🤣

We began butchering our own chickens this year, not my favorite thing but I have come to terms with it, and the resulting meat is the best tasting chicken I've ever had. Not the most tender, but definitely the best flavor, and the broth is top notch too.

I'm still trying to convince the warden to butcher, but she's a hard sell. I've got a buyer paying 15/per bird at 19-20 weeks so I guess my question is... Is it difficult and time consuming to butcher your own, I mean there's all that involved plus getting the meat right so it's edible.
I would like to try Marans meat at least once.

You should try it, at least once!

15 / bird, yeah, can't beat that! We aren't the fastest but 3 of us did 16 birds in 5 hours. Sometimes you can find people who rent their processing equipment out by the day. I highly recommend a plucker. But, if you only do 1 just to try things out... skin it 😆 my hubby thought I was bonkers a few years back when I accidentally bought a CX, we gave her the best life she could have until one day she was just too heavy for her legs and it was time. I skinned her...

We have 21 do do this weekend.

I'm going to be down to 72 going into the winter, huge relief!
