I've got a 1/4" plate steel I set on top with a hole the same size as light that helps candle, but I'm looking to get a candler.

The eggs aren't that dark. Lighting/crap phone/shadow trickery... These are more their true color.

An odd development.
I took the random pics of Solo and Jett separately free ranging yesterday. And I catch this moment this morning.
Not only is this is a first seeing Solo hanging with an OG or any of the BCMs at all, but ironically it's Jett.

Jett is probably my biggest girl.
I'm struggling with type/mass/leg width in my Marans, so I took some pics of Jett to get thoughts on her in the BCM thread.
She went broody early, so I didn't get any eggs to set. But now that she's back laying I'm thinking about doing another hatch. I really need more progeny from Joannie my darkest layer also, so just trying to get a plan of who's eggs to set. Tho Joannie hasn't started laying yet from her molt.

But Jett might be my diamond in the rough so to speak. I was procrastinating setting eggs early on because they're not very dark and oblong.
She should hopefully produce some nicely colored progeny, having minimal copper, but her copper is on the darker side almost mahogany so we'll have to keep an eye on that also.

Question for you genetic whiz kids..
I've got 2 little guys in the mixed flock. Both have yellow feet and in the shanks.
One has a rose comb and the other is straight.
When I set eggs under Roady (BA) I only set BA and BR.
Welllll....I already know I got one oops BCM x SLW with the rose comb. Is the second one a BCM x SLW also and the rose comb isn't showing/dominant?
The rose comb fella is showing color in his hackles but I can't be for sure if it's silver or copper yet.
I'm assuming it should be silver as it should be dominant over gold in the males, correct?
