Wrath's Marans

Pics
I almost forgot I took more pics of the babies to show off that big guy compared to the others.
They'll be 10 wks tomorrow and he's got the most color on his back and he seems to have a nice tail so far also.
A few pics are blurry but show his height/size.

On the left.

Here's a crappy pic but it shows the 3 boys up top. He's on the right. This pic really shows his mass compared to the others.

On the right again, barn cat walked by outside the run as I was taking the pic so they all went red alert mode.

Wow, he is a a big boy. Lovely hatch you have here, I’m seeing lots of good type and low tails.

I’m going to give you a points breakdown later when I’m free, but he’s a lovely looking bird. When he fattens up he’ll be incredible, don’t forget Brahmas aren’t done growing until they are 2!
No rush, but I'm excited to see how you rank him :yesss:

I hatched him from eggs from a breeder who has been working on their line for a few years, so I'm not surprised he's good looking. But my excitement is definitely up there with Christmas morning :ya

I knew they were a slow developing bird, I didn't know the 2 years though, I had thought more like 18 months. He's still just a baby :jumpy

When I finally sort out my Brahma flock’s fertility issues, I’ll have plenty more photos to share to make you jellous! 😂

Mine lay cream coloured eggs, they fit well in boxes between leghorn and red star eggs. I go: legbar, leghorn, Brahma, red star, welsummer, marans.
My brahma pullet is probably similar to the Barred Rocks and Rhode Island Reds I had. She's darker than my Swedish Flower Hen pullets (:gig had to add "pullets" as they aren't Swedish Flower Hen hens yet...) and darker than my SLW as well. Actually at this time she is my darkest layer!

I'll get some decent photos of her and post for you too. I think she's gorgeous! She is from the same breeding pen as our cockerel so she's in with my SFH cockerel and I'll hatch a few mixes next year. It will be interesting to see how the mixed cockerels grow out and how well received they are for meat (flavor, texture, size...).

I'm looking forward to seeing how quickly you can convince Wrath that a Brahma coop is a necessity :lau

Of course there’s very little development between ages 12 to 24 months, most of the growing is done at a year old, but they keep growing a bit, about an inch and putting weight on, until 2.

How is it possible to not get notifications to your own thread?..that's a first.

Sunrise is at 8:03 tomorrow, I normally don't come out til 830-9, they have heated waterers, feed and windows in all coops.
First time doing this, what time should I turn lights on. I read gradually sooooooo....730 to start? Or earlier.

I've read enough to know not to keep lights on in the pm.

@Tstraub how do you start out?

Welllll....I can either lie and let this drag out for fun or just say I have a source for some nice ones so I'll add it to my order. 😉 Your call.
I really need to weigh and measure my boy!
Yes, you should. And post pics of all the rest. Wink wink hint hint.
