Wrath's Marans

Turkeys are good hawk repellent, mostly. Turkeys can and will violently attack raptors that get too close, and they make a huge fuss whenever they spot one circling, well before the chickens usually do.
I didn't know this, the wife mentioned Guinea's but they're noisy I hear. My boys make enough noise.

Guineas are very noisy and they're also pretty hard to contain. The farmer nearby had them and he kept them contained the suggested amount in a predator proof coop but as soon as they were full grown, they took off.
Good info...that's a hard NO then. 🤣

SOOOOO noisy. We had some, now we don't, I don't miss them at all. They were loud enough they'd make my ears ring when I was having to feed them or go past wherever they were.

Ours were super rough with eachother and if they could get at the chickens, they'd chase and attack them. We had one guinea hen that was nice, all the rest of them ganged up on her until she'd just hide in a corner, we moved her in with the chickens and she was ok with them. I've read the bigger the flock of guineas the better but we had more than I ever want again :barnie

I'm looking at getting some Ameraucana hatching eggs shipped. 🙂
You won't regret them! With this cold, I have just 2 birds looking 100% happy and comfortable, and that's 1 of my Ameraucanas and the other is a silkie x EE cross. The cool thing is, they're best friends. They're the same size too, a bit smaller than my other hens, they're so adorable together!

I considered them for their predator warning calls but after talking to the farmer and doing more research I also decided to pass. There's probably a whole flock of runaway guineas somewhere in the woods anyway..

This is where research pays off...

"Guinea's are cute, let's get them?"

Followed by...

" What is that noise, and how do I get rid of it !?"

I might do some research on Turkeys as @Bantambird suggested. We have a local wild flock that passed thru our property for the first time last fall. That was interesting watching the chickens and ducks reaction (freaking out mostly)
