Wrath's Marans

We had our first nice day with loads of sunshine and 30s yesterday, so I let them out under close watch. I spotted one hawk way off in the distance but it never came this way.

I think I have 3 BCM pullets now that are laying but haven't caught the 3rd yet to know who. If so I'm waiting on Solo and 1 more BCM yet. The other 3 BCMs are only 13 weeks.

Kongs coop has 19 girls at the moment... 9 hens and 10 pullets. 3 of which are Solo (BSM), Christy (OE), black band (MMM) and 7 BCM pullets.

It's raining here and my ladies have been confined to their run and chicken yard for a couple weeks, they are not happy. They bum rush the gate every day when I go in there, lol.

Ha...I was getting that also from both flocks, but the bachelor boys scatter out into the run when I open their door. Complete opposite 🤣

Good looking birds. The more I learn about the features of BCM's and breeding to the SOP, the more I can see those desirable features. Yours have that broad shouldered, rectangular, wide stance that is so important Marans.
Thanks...I appreciate that. It's been a hard road with hatchery birds to start but I got lucky with the copper being nice. These last boys from Raven and Momma I'm keeping were where I finally found good type. Last year's were mostly v shape. I gotta sort thru the pullets yet to select my pairings but I'm pretty stoked for this year and hopefully darken the eggs also.

That song could have stayed buried....just saying. 🤣
Wow she's gorgeous!
Thanks, I'll be doing a bigger hatch this year with her eggs. I only hatched 2 last year and neither survived. Her eggs are oblong and not very dark, but I need more of that Copper in my flock. ♥️
