Wrath's Marans

That song could have stayed buried....just saying. 🤣

Thanks, I'll be doing a bigger hatch this year with her eggs. I only hatched 2 last year and neither survived. Her eggs are oblong and not very dark, but I need more of that Copper in my flock. ♥️
Too late, it's back and ready to rock 🤣

I have a silkie who lays oblong eggs in the breeding pen, I'm not sure who it is but I’ve been moving those eggs to the eating egg cartons as they show up.

I have one that lays super long skinny eggs. Just curious... does that shape make incubation more difficult?

I have always heard that odd shaped eggs can make it difficult for the chick to get into hatching position and have a lower chance of hatching. Since the basic idea of breeding is “hatching for improvement” most breeder would consider hens that consistently lay odd shaped eggs a cull.

Just to be clear by cull I only mean remove from breading program not necessarily soup pot. She could still make an excellent breakfast egg hen or be used to hatch eggs laid by other hens. I have a Wyandotte that lays torpedo shaped eggs but she lays almost every day and is a fierce momma hen when the mood strikes her so she’s a keeper in my flock.

Do you realize how much Metal I'm going to have to listen to, to get that out of my head?

In retaliation I hereby make you listen to this...compliments of my granddaughter !!!

Your welcome...

Jett lays these... Sometimes a tad darker but not much. Not recommended SOP so I've had her eggs on the back burner as I've been trying to hatch only my darkest layers eggs. Realizing recently I need type in my flock first and work on egg color after.

This was a good explanation 👍

That was just plain disturbing.
But at least I won't have Brick house running thru my head now....🤨

ETA... That was all visual. Couldn't have volume up, grandbabies sleeping. 🤫
