Wrath's Marans

I think she’s just a small girl. Marans hens should be 7 lbs, so 5 1/2 is quite a small hen. I think that is a matter of her genetics since I know you’ll take good care of her.

Small hens lay small eggs, so I doubt her egg size a matter of her health. Correct me if I’ve missed something because I didn’t catch the start of this conversation.

There was some discussion about incubating small eggs and I mentioned my Marans have never laid above small size. Then overweight hens was suggested as one possible reason for poor laying

That makes sense, though I might suggest that you wouldn’t want to hatch from her eggs anyway to make sure your marans are as big as they should be. At the same time I wouldn’t rule it out if her type or egg colour would improve the standard of your flock.

Her coloring is lovely, though! I'm very new to chickening, but a BCM is next on my list. I didn't realize that hens could get so much copper coloring in them! 😍
