At 3 weeks are they bigger than momma now?I gave 8 standard Plymouth barred rocks (is it Plymouth? Like the mayflower or am I exhausted) to my bantam Cochin. They’re almost 3 weeks old, and everyone’s happy as can be.
I gave Felicity 10, probably could have got 8 more, but she was a big ladyPop quiz !!!
What's the most babies you'd shove under a broody? 13 too many?
Go!!
I've almost always given eggs, a couple times slipped purchased chicks under them, but after this last time with all but 1 egg broken due to a freak out by a hen laying in the nest while the broody was on break, I'll probably stick to slipping them under after hatch, unless I move them to a separate area (which I've never doneOn the topic of broodies... this group seems pretty experienced. I have a question:
Is it better to provide hatching eggs to a broody within the first few days or... day old chicks once she's been sitting a while?
You just can't beat the cheeks, then when you give them feathered legs they are shear perfection
Uber cuteness! Not nearly enough Ameraucanas in there though, we need to work on that!
I was going to say that! They’re not bigger than her yet, but almost the same size. She can’t sit on them anymore, they just kind of huddle around her. It’s pretty cute really. At 3 weeks are they bigger than momma now?![]()
Those are great, I came very close to getting some lavender ameraucanas eggs recently. I’m trying hard to select away from bearded chickens due to the extreme heat here, but they lay such nice blue eggs.
