Wrath's Marans

Got some better pics of Headspots headspot. Back right side of comb. Her and the Kong x Solo group are 19 weeks now but not showing any interest yet in the nestboxes.View attachment 4203040View attachment 4203041
I really like her. Can’t tell type too well, but she’s tidy and to me has a classic marans look to her face. I think yours mature faster than mine, mine are 16 weeks (the first lot with Joan etc) but nowhere near grown. Maybe they’ll catch up in the next few weeks.

Nice to see the copper wasn’t too washed out. I’m noticing some ground colour in the upper breast, that will come from the fact it is permissible in silvers but not coppers. Could also be encouraged by Kong’s copper in his chest. Something I didn’t consider, but an easy fix. I recommend breeding these to a more moderately coloured male (less copper on chest, more black in shoulders and neck) to balance this out, but I appreciate you will be lucky to get one suitable.

As long as the tails are low and type is good, it’s still a worthwhile cross. Tidier, small comb too from bantambird’s silvers.
Hopefully by Spring I can get these penned up if I have a couple decent breeder males out of these growouts, I'm really interested to see how fast I can restore the copper.

I'll be getting some much better pics of her soon so we look at her overall.

I've been waiting for Copper or Silver (Kong or Poppy) to appear on the lone pullet of Solo eggs that Shadow is raising.

She's 4 weeks old this past Friday.

@wrathsfarm are you keeping any of the Solo/Kong males to breed back to coppers? This way you could get 50% s+/s+ copper males and 50% copper hens (the silvers will be culls).
I rehomed the single male from the 1st hatch but have 3 more in that 2nd hatch.
I'm undecided yet on this as the coops are maxed capacity at the moment to start another breed pen. I'm expanding tho, as we speak, so it's a possibility.
