The shells aren't as hard as they were when they first started laying................but I've heard that is to be expected. However, the easiest way to break them is to strike them with the back edge of a table knife..................so I wouldn't call them "thin".

These kind of things happen with chickens, who knows why? As long as it doesn't continue for more than a week or 2, it's just a glitch in their systems, it happens.

It sounds like eggs that weren't very fresh. As eggs age they lose moisture & the proteins start to break down.
A fresh egg is high & firm, an older egg will flatten out & spread across the pan. A very old egg will have a wrinkled yolk.

I don't really know why, but have noticed any wrinkled yolks are always from refrigerated eggs, and not eggs kept on our countertop. Perhaps yours are refrigerated, too?
