Chapter 20

It’s been a day, but I still feel so bad about the way I acted. I feel horrible about what I said to my friends. I mean, they’re my friends, and I love them, but my mind got the best of me, and I over-reacted.
I probably should apologize to Onyx, especially. He was trying to help me and I was rude, but I’m afraid that he will be mad at me.
I don’t know what I’m supposed to do now, but I have to think of something quick. The worst thing that could possibly happen is that they will still be angry at me. I’m sorry! I really am!
I feel like I need to do something, so I slowly make my way out of the coop. I find my friends pecking about without me.
“Hey guys… Look,” I begin.
“Cloudy! There you are!” Prim shouts.
“Hey… Um… I’m sorry I was so mean to you guys yesterday,” I say slowly.
“It’s fine. That’s how we all are when we lay eggs,” she says.
“Thanks,” I say relieved.
“Really, its not a big deal,” Daisy comments.
“Yep,” Lilly adds.
I’m still a bit worried, though, because Onyx hasn’t said anything. Maybe he doesn’t forgive me! What if he doesn’t?
“Onyx?” I say meekly.
“What?” he snaps.
“Look, I’m really sorry. I didn’t mean to make you mad or hurt your feelings,” I explain softly.
“I know, but…” he says.
“What?” I cluck.
“Never mind,” he says.
All of a sudden, Lilly screams…
“Group hug!”
We all huddle in with each other and give each other giant hugs. I’m so relieved. They all seem to forgive me now! Even Onyx gives me a hug!
We are all laughing and talking when Flower comes over. Oh no! What did I do to deserve this? Oh yeah. Never mind.
“What do you want?” I instantly snap.
“Nothing, but to harass you,” she says, rolling her eyes.
“Seriously,” Daisy responds.
“No, really,” Flower snarls, “You’re old enough to get Jasper’s attention, with your egg laying and all. I’m going to give you one fair warning, and one only. Stay away from him. He’s mine, you hear?”
“Yes, but I don’t see why…” I start.
“Look! He has been showing interest in you and you know it. Just stay away,” she growled. She lunged forward and ripped one of my feathers out of my back.
“Leave me alone!” I cluck angrily.
“Make me,” she challenges.
Here we go again. I roll my eyes and lower my head. She lowers her head to stare me in the eyes.
“Clouds, don’t do it,” I hear Prim warning,
I don’t listen. I’m not one for listening. Plus, I wasn’t going to let Flower get away with calling me out like that.
“Cloudy!” Onyx clucks.
“Come on, Clouds! Stop it,” Daisy says firmly.
Again, I don’t listen. I lunge at Flower and go at her with my claws. I miss and tumble on the ground. She pins me there and I struggle to break free.
“Let me go!” I shriek.
“You’re not getting away this time, Fluffy,” she snarls.
Aiming for my face, she lines up her beak and gets ready to peck me… Hard.
“Let me go now!” I yell.
She shakes her head and I make a split-second decision to try and roll away. I swerve to the side and Flower makes an attempt to block me.
“Not this time,” she says.
I need to get away. Who knows what would happen if I can’t?
