Writing article(s) for local newspaper about chickens - need input

I will be writing an article for our local newspaper about chickens, which could
eventually be a series of articles if everything goes well. I need everybody's
help - what should I include in my first article?

1. Why chickens? (Benefits of raising chickens)
2. Basic care of chickens (nutrition, housing, protection from predators,
health, etc).
3. Breed characteristics (choosing the "right" breed)
4. How to hatch eggs/care for chicks
5. Flock Management (breeding for/against certain traits, how to deal with an
aggressive rooster, egg eating hens, etc.)
6. Showing chickens

Other ideas are certainly welcome. Also, you are welcome to do the same in your local newspaper. Be sure to site BYC in your article.

For a first article I would do why, how, and choosing the right breed.

You could do a whole article on flock management!

Then you could branch out to showing, if they want to see the 'right' breed in person.

I would save breeding and chicks for later....

I would definitely start with "Why Chickens?" and the benefits, and then go through pretty much in the order that your first post mentions. Whether it be one topic at a time or more than one, I don't know, that depends on the length of each article. But the order that you list it now seems right on the money. Good luck!
