I use Google docs for basically any writing I can, school projects included so everything is a mess in there

Have you tried doing this? If you want a "fresh" page every time, they'll still all be in the same document...

I keep relevant stuff there, handy where I can find it easy. My other random document is in Word.

I have so many ideas for little clips of things and even scenes that won’t fit into the foreseeable plot and writing in a linear manner is extremely excruciating for me but I’m forcing myself to sit and do it.

It just gets tricky when have like 50 docs all with around 200 words of random scenes all titled something like, “the RaNdOmNeSs (idk what im doinnnggg)” cuz then I have no idea what anything is and forget that I even wrote it.

I'm at about 7,000 on a novel that I'm working on! I'm curious as how you all beef up chapters. Mine are way too short and to the point lol. I like to do these excersises where you pick a random person in public and recreate a person in the image of them using ai. Then i assign them a personality, name etc. It was supposed to turn into short stories but one took off into my novel in progress lol.

I had the skinny chapter issue when I started out with this draft.
The biggest culprit was that each chapter only amounted to an intro, singular scene, and an outro.
What helped me was packing more scenes into each chapter (‘more’ meaning three or so. Not going crazy).
Now my chapters average at about 3,500 or longer, depending on the content.

*another note is that chapter length depends wholly on the individual book’s pacing. Faster paced books are clearly better suited to short, snappy chapters. Good ‘ol plodders with deep, philosophical discussions or whatever give you the long-haul chapters. So do with that what you will, tailor your own experience. You’re the one writing it.

I think a completely fresh doc without tabs helps me to feel more comfortable with not doing a good job
Similar to not wanting to ruin nice quality sketchbooks…if that makes sense

I do not have any of this problem
And the fun part is sometimes I’ll open a doc wondering what is in it and get hit with the freight train that is my random 50 word monologue that I wrote on a random 2am night

I have my main story, "feedback" (Lacy has not read it, she just mentioned some stuff I wanted to keep track of), random hopefully relevant soon scenes, and that random extra one was when I first discovered a major plot change that I wanted to remember It quite literally starts as so...
