So, now that I've already said something, I probably should introduce myself. I'm pretty much clueless when it comes to genres, so it's nothing but a guessing game there. I've written plenty of books, as well as several books in a book series, but most of those were written in notebooks and none of them have seen a publisher (though I was talking with a self-publishing company back a few years ago!). I write anything from chickens going on crazy off-farm adventures to pirates battling the English. My first book ever was on wolves, and I probably wouldn't be able to read my own writing if I tried reading it now, lol. (I've been writing books before I even knew what a sentence was, so there are a lot that are pretty rough.)
As of right now, I'm working on a novella (that was supposed to be short story, which I still call it that) for a year now. On the first draft, it had nearly 24,000 words and has seven chapters. My goal with this piece is to practice my writing skills and prepare myself for a book series I've been wanting to write and publish. (I wrote book one a few years ago, but I have intentions on re-writing it, even if I have to start from scratch.)
On this "novella," I just finished editing one of my chapters. I can see many places I've improved on it, as well as places where I've been able to put my hard worked research into play. I also changed the formatting in some of the places, which did make the chapter itself longer, but, another accomplishment I was able to do with this chapter was cutting. Cutting is probably scary for just about every writer, but for me, I haven't felt like I had anywhere to actually practice that, until I was editing that chapter. In that chapter alone, I was able to cut over 300 words!
For end year goal, unfortunately, I don't have any, or at least, not anymore. I was hoping to finish my "novella" within a year, my mind, December, but I still have a few chapters to edit before I call it good. I would like to edit one more chapter before the end of the year if possible, but this month might be too busy for me. My next goal would be to have this novella finished by Spring, which does sound reasonable to me, and possibly reachable.
