What everyone else has said.. with a little bit to add.

What career services told us was, the only way your resume should be more than one page is if you have 10 or more years of relevant field experience. Including DOB is also unnecessary, as that could be used against the employer in age discrimination.. as well as it being none of their business.

Look for key words in job listings, and if you can, include them in the resume, especially if it's being submitted electronically. Resumes are often skimmed for these special skills/key words, and those that don't have them are tossed quickly. So this unfortunately means re-writing the resume for every unique position. - This echoes what Wildsky said, emphasize his experience in the areas the employer is looking for.

Keep fancy fonts to a minimum, and try not to use anything smaller than a 10 point, or larger than a 14 point. Although I think I use an 8 for my software experience

. but my resume has an odd format too.

Cover letter, don't forget the cover letter.. Again, tailor it for each position applied for.

Hubby has to be into a temp service place tomorrow morning to turn in his drivers liscense and social security and fill out some paperwork. My mom is a well known person at the temp service so she called the lady up and sent some referals for hubby. She said there is a warehouse job available for part time to start but later will go into full time and perminent. We should be hearing more about it tomorrow. Do put a cover letter on, with a brief introduction and what job you want, and maybe a quick highlight of his stellar qualifications

" Dear Sir or Ma'am,

I am a self-starter, and have no problem staying busy and motivated. I'm working towards my degree in _____ in my spare time, and know I could bring valuable skills to your team.

Then, RIGHT after the interview, mail a thank you note, reminding them who you were, and how polite you are, and making them think of you at least one more time.... Don't forget, dress clean, no extra jewelry, NO HAT, turn your cell phone off, be 10 minutes early, and have a firm handshake (no broken fingers though) and be super polite.
