Sorry, it's just a habit i suppose (the majority of my posts are in the breeds and genetics section).
And to those of you that are apposed to eating a silkie, i understand where you're coming from, a silkie is usually meant to be a pet so you see it as eating a pet (i assume) so its understandable.
Assuming this was moved to the meaties because it had something to do with silkie meat or something....
Now that it's here....
I just processed a few silkie cross banty roos last weekend. They were tasty. The actual meat is chicken colored (white breast, dark leg/thigh), but where it met the bone it was black. I had 8 of them, made about 2 gallons of rich broth, and about 3lbs of shredded chicken meat.
I find it funny that this section is one of the only sections on this board where eating your chickens is acceptable. Silkie or not.... it's a chicken. No disrespect, but that's why I hang in this section and don't venture too far. I would be crucified for my beliefs in other parts of this forum. But hey, we all have our ways I guess. Diapers for some, fancy coops for others, me.... well give me the grill and of course... a silkie, I mean a chicken.
Too bad the OP had to edit their post, after the "warm reception" they got when they first posed the question.
I'm pretty new to BYC, but figured out that I my participation here was going to fit best in the meat birds thread and the turkey thread. Sure, I've got laying hens, and I love 'em to death, but if I posted in any of the other threads, I think I would accidentally ruffle someone's feathers!
