Wry Neck and heat

For the rest of the flock I use a powder concentrate of vitamin A D And E mixed with a B supplement called vita pro B. I got these supplements from first state vet online. The package name of the A D E powder is DAWE-ADE.its to be supplemented in the water then I purchased a vitamin E liquid that is applied to the water at the rate of 7/10cc per gallon.I also got this from first state vet.I let my birds drink freely of the vitamins
For my sick bird I use 1 capsule of 400 milligram vitamin E into her food three times a day. In order for them to readily absorb the vitamin E I mix a small amount of crushed selenium tablet onto her food once a day. A word of warning too much selenium is toxic so use a small amount
I also give the B vitamin its mixed into the water with the A D E
The liquid E for water is given separately once daily. All of my supplements come from first state vet supply online. If you don't see the supplement online in the catalog contact Dr brown of first state vet and he can send it out to you
I contacted him and he recommended these supplements and sent them out to me. The vitamin E and selenium are over the counter along with the polyvisol. The predinsone is prescription only as its a steroid and used in severe cases. I use the predinsone on both my birds as they both were severe. You can find the treatment I'm using on line.its Alan Stanford's treatment for wry neck
His website is brown egg blue egg.com look in his glossy and click on crook neck. You will find dose and schedules. I add the supplements on top of this treatment. It was very successful for my first bird as she is 100% healed now. My second bird is showing great improvements. I hope this helps
Any more questions at all please ask I'm happy to help in any way I can. Or you can pm me if you like. Best wishes
how much Dawe-Ade to a gallon of water?

Hi there.
I just Googled "can heatstroke or dehydration cause wry neck" and I came across this post.
I always give my chickens vitamin E twice a week and have never had any of my own chickens (that I have bred myself) develop wry neck.
However, three birds that I bought in from other breeders got the wry neck and here is what I observed....
Bird number one: was transported to my house inside a dark box on the back of a bakkie in extreme heat with no water for over 4 hours.
When he got to me he was almost dead and had wry neck. The breeder told me that he never had wry neck before.
I saved his life with cold water on his feet and a fan on his body and by helping him to drink and after three days he learnt how to walk again but the wry neck never went away no matter what the Vet prescribed for him and I had to teach him how to eat and drink with a twisted neck.
The second bird....
Arrived at my house with a severe case of Infectious Coryza and he was refusing to drink water so I had to give it to him all the time. The one day I had to go to work and it was a hot day. When I got home he was almost dead from dehydration and suddenly had wry neck. It got better over time but has not completely gone away and he now can only eat and drink from raised bowls. I cured the Coryza by the way, he just needed the correct antibiotics.
Bird number three....
Was a spoilt house bird and then came to me. I noticed that he was not drinking during the day and would only drink at night time when I bring the boys in for the night and I offer them water by holding a small bowl for them while they sit next to me on the couch. Same story, the day came when I had to leave home for 6 hours to go and work and when I returned home he was almost dead from dehydration and had developed wry neck. I've just asked the breeder what type of water bowls he used with this bird so that I can give it a bowl that it is familiar with. I got him right with fluids but so far he still has the wry neck.
So I am convinced that heatstroke/dehydration can also cause wry neck.
Any thoughts everyone?
P. S. I don't know if this is relevant but all these birds are the same breed (Silkies) and also the same sex (male) and they were all between the age of 4 months a 8 months at the time of their episodes that caused the wry neck.
