One of my lil baby polish has wry neck. He was sleeping in the food dish. He isn't truly a tiny baby, some of the guys from these chicks have been beginning to crow.

Can he be helped in any way or is he just suffering? If he is I'm going to put him down. I am willing to try if there is hope and keep him indoors and do medications or whatever I need to.

Welcome To BYC

How old is he?
Any photos or video?
Do you know if he was pecked in the head?
Can he move his legs?

Wry Neck can be a symptom of Vitamin E deficiency, head injury/trauma or of certain diseases (like Marek's, Newcastle, Avian Lymphoid Leukosis).

You can try treating him with poultry vitamins that contain Vitamins E, B and Selenium. Alternatively give Vitamin E 400UI daily along with a crushed human B-Complex tab added to his food. Offer eggs or tuna to provide Selenium.

Try your best to keep him hydrated. He may need assistance in eating - see video below.

How old is he? The others from his batch are just crowing.
Any photos or video? Not at the moment but it's identical to the other one I've had with wry years ago. Silver laced polish, this one looks to be a cock.
Do you know if he was pecked in the head? He could have been, I don't know- he free ranges with a large group.
Can he move his legs? Yes. He can walk somehow and is evidently eating, he's not thin.

That doesn't really tell me how old he is -- chicks as young as 3wks have been known to crow.:D

I see you started another thread about deaths - I will repeat this here- It sounds like you have a lot going on. It would be best for you to have some testing and a necropsy performed to determine the cause of your troubles.

If you are in the US - check here for your state lab.

So he is more alert now that it is daytime and I've been able to get a little better idea of his condition. The wry is pretty bad, but not as bad as the last bird I had with it (that bird died though..). He can hold his head up for short periods and point and peck straight some of the time. He does not appear to be able to walk, but can stand up and stand still and go backwards. He has episodes of flailing where his neck curls under and he just flops around hopelessly for a few seconds. He has use of his wings but not well and not when he should (IE if he feels he is falling he will not always flap).

He has the desire to eat and drink and can do so very slowly on his own if his head is placed in or over the dish. He has been eating tuna with vitamins and also hard boiled egg with vitamins. He seems to have an easier time eating the egg.

I give concentrated vitamins (sav-a-chick) for wry neck and most chicks pull through. Even if it looks pretty bad, they can recover.

Make sure they are not too crowded, have clean bedding and vitamins in their water. Give wry neck birds some drinks of water with concentrated vitamins or give with a dropper if they will not drink.

I just have one with it so I have him separate from everyone else. Thank you for your help.
