Today I was given a ducking from my local TSC, who has a crooked neck. I read on here BYC where a lady had a ducking Named Bentley with the same issue as my Marvin! And how 100-150 mg of Plain Niacin (Not Flush or Time release) and Vitamin E worked for him! I was wondering where I could get it. Marvin is such a happy ducking and so full of life! When I seen him, he blessed my heart! And I got him without any questions! He is eating and drinking great! And getting around well he dose get excited and spins around. He can move his neck from both sides and he is able to straighten it out for a min then it’s back to being crooked. Please any information will help out and a picture of the supplies and location on where to get it! Thanks so much!

There's lots of ways to add Niacin, and ducks need it as it's lacking in chick starter. But Niacin deficiency usually shows in the legs/feet of a duck. I do not know if Niacin will help or not.

However here's a few ways to get Niacin. First, don't feed chick starter. Or if you do, add Niacin directly or in a vitamin mineral pack. Game bird starter and turkey starter have the most niacin, but can also have to much protein. Broiler (meatbird) starter generally has plenty of Niacin as it supports their fast growth.

Nutrena's Meatbird crumbles has enough Niacin and is one I plan on using for ducklings. Dumer 24% also claims to be a good starter for ducks.

Next is supplements, you can buy Niacin pretty much everywhere that sells supplements. Walmart, Target, CVS, Walgreens, etc. Also TSC often has it as a liquid or in a vitamin pack. You want the plain Niacin, not the delayed release or non blushing. 100 to 150mg per gallon of drinking water. You can also add it to their food but not sure off hand about the ratio.

Ducks only need it for the first 8 weeks or so during their rapid growth stage. Good luck!

Forgot to talk about all flock type feeds, they generally work quite well for most stages of ducks lives but have failed during the rapid growth phase. This has happened mostly with the fastest growing Pekins. So always a good idea to supplement ducks during the first 8 weeks. I'll link a vitamin pack I was looking at earlier today. Metzers recommended it and sells it for $5, this other place is like $3.50 but in either case the shipping isn't cheap. If you guys find something better on Amazon let me know.

I would start Marvin on Liquid Vit B complex and get vit E in the gel cap you can prick it on one end and put it over his feed just enough feed that he eats it all you can give him the liquid B the same way. We followed Bentley all the way through his ordeal and I still have his story in my favs. You can buy human Liquid B complex at Walmart you'll need to give him 3ml a day or you can go to TSC and get the cattle liquid B complex and give him 1 ml a day it's more concentrated, and vit E is found anywhere vitamins are sold. Please keep us updated on Marvin such a precious little one.

:welcome

I had a duckling that looked like that a few years ago and I don't think it's a vitamin deficiency, to me it looked more like a type of scoliosis, but in the neck. Mine grew up and lived a happy life, but with a crooked neck.

If you want to treat with vitamins it sure won't hurt, and it might even help, but the type of B vitamin used to treat wry neck is thiamine, not niacin, and vitamin E deficiency can cause wry neck too I think, but don't quote me on that.

If you want to try treating with vitamins you could try supplementing with a vitamin b complex that contains thiamine and some vitamin E.
