I'd like to start a small covey of about six Coturnix Quail ladies for eggs, but i can go with ten if need be (I've noticed that tends to be the minimum order for live Quail).

I can pay via PayPal or cash on pickup.

I am only interested in sexed hens right now; i am not prepared to cull males via selling or butchering if i hatched them,or to house them all individually.

Bonus points if you live in driving distance of Forest Lake, Minnesota! I'd so much prefer to pick birds up in person.

These will be very lucky, pet quail who will not get eaten. (The eggs will! Yum!)

I am most interested in Falb Fee, Grau Fee, Pearl, Snowflake/Snowy, and solid black, in roughly that order. Really, any of the grayscale colors that still have pattern.

Honestly, I'll be happy with any color quail, these are just my preference if i get that lucky tho be able to choose 🤣 Myshire Farms is my backup, but they require ten hens minimum and can't guarantee colors. I don't know why i have my heart set on at least one Falb Fee except dang they're gorgeous little birds! They look like tiny owls 😍

I am in no mad rush to bring the birdies home; for the right Quail Breeder, I'm happy to wait for birds to grow if need be. I'm more concerned about the quail being healthy and happy. (And I'm still building the pen/coop, teehee. Frame is done, need 1/4 hardware cloth and a roof/lid and we're good to go!)

I'd suggest you get an incubator and hatch eggs. That's the way to get quail that imprint and treat you like their mom. They become super tame and eggs cost a lot less. Any extra you hatch can also be give to friends or sold. It's better than getting live quail imho.

I wasn't able to find a breeder i was comfortable with in driving distance, and i decided against having them shipped after hearing the sad stories of how many don't make it and knowing our post office...

I think the hatching eggs will be safer for the quail even if it means i have to figure out what to do with extra roosters.

I'm not going to count on being able to rehome them as pets, it can be very hard to find people who want to take care of birds. If they'd end up eaten anyways that route, is feel better doing that ourselves so we have control over everything his end is as stressless and fast as possible.

I plan to order eggs from Theiving Otter Farm! I really like what i have seen and heard about them and their birds seem to have a reputation for being very friendly, gentle, and calm in disposition.

Great! I hope you make a hatch along if you do start Incubating! I hope you have good luck.

I shall! I've got a project diary thread going that'll have pretty much everything in it.
That's great to hear, I have a Google docs page with all my hatches in it to see what the best time of year to set eggs, settings for the incubator, fertility rate, hatch rate, and even what day to do lockdown with different breeds. It's all written down to the last detail, with side notes on what to do next hatch or any tips I from people who actually know what their doing unlike me who first thought "oh this is like a microwave, you through in the batch and wait for them to come out. But in reality it's so much more than that.
