WV PA MD VA Chickenstock in Martinsburg, WV. Sat. April 25th 10 -2

You are crazy crafty Msbear! I cant wait to meet you (all) this weekend. I'm putting a little cash in my pocket and leaving the rest at home though, or I know I'd spend it all... and end up walking home pulling the cart coop behind me!

Kelpie Wrote:So I did end up getting tested this evening! Poor Jesse after getting into a car accident and hanging around all day waiting outside my house for an hour for me to get home spent close two hours on 11 birds. He had a hell of a time doing my moderns, he said my rooster was the hardest bird he'd ever done. Ideally a little blood drawn from the wing is fairly easy but it was not the case for my babies. Their veins are the width of sewing thread. I bet both my roo's wings are so bruised. The geese were much easier.

Jesse just left my house at 9:20 for a 3.5 hour drive. I am so grateful for his dedication. I had just said I needed it by the 25th and he said " so you're going to Erin's show, huh? She's got those little black things, and those cute little fluffy things!"

Poor Mr. Jesse!

He was here last Weds. to test my birds. It was pouring rain so we had to test them in my garage. He showed up,and didn't think twice about getting them done. He a very knowledgable person who is always willing to answer question. He certified me as a tester a few months ago to test birds for fairs, and poultry show. I have worked with him several times. He's a great person to work with if you ever have the chance.

Wish I could come to the Chicken Stock to meet you all,but I'am 3 1/2 hrs. away.

Christine is from Paw Paw, WV. I met her for the first time last week. She purchased some of my splash silkie chicks. I invited her to come to the swap and set up. This is a list of some of the stuff she plans to bring:

My list is as follows: 1 White Silkie / Buff Orpington mix Rooster(color-white with buff streaks) , 1 Polish/ Buff Orpington mix Rooster ( color- cream/ white/ buff) , 1 Polish/ Cochin mix Rooster ( color- black/ reddish brown) , 1 Blue Cochin Rooster, Black Australorp chicks ( how many- ? and they are cockerels and pullets) , Assorted Red Chicks ( how many-? and they are cockerels and pullets) , Quail Eggs ( how many- 70 plus not sure on count).

I also called Darlee in Hedgesville yesterday and asked her to join us and she said she would. She sells bunnies:

New Zealands, mini rex, Holland lop, lionhead, and several breeds of pedigreed bunnies.

We've never met but she seems nice. Same as almost everyone else. I can hardly wait till Saturday.

Remember to bring money to make change!

That's sounds great but make sure she's NPIP. As long as she's in state, she doesn't need the AI testing. ...IF she's not, she can still sell hatching eggs.

Great News for anyone from WV who would like you sell birds at the swap but aren't npip. Jesse will be there between 8:00 -9:00 to test birds before the swap.

Please have your birds in cages and keep untested birds away from other birds.

I'll be there at 9:00 to start setting up. See you there.

Majestic is bringing balloons. Im bringing a canopy and a couple tables (kelpie has already claimed my extra one:) If anyone has any fold up tables or chairs, please bring them.

IT'S ON LIKE POPCORN

What you are after is the VS-9 form, and you will have to ask for them. It is a way for the Dep't. of Ag to track the comings-and-goings of birds and eggs, especially across state lines. I am in MD, and I have been asking for VS-9s for years--but because I am not a huge hatchery, I just don't register on their radar screen. So they never send me any.

Oh well. It is their loss, not mine--I don't really care for the gov't. to be tracking everything I do, anyway, kwim?

I always pass along my NPIP number to buyers--if they want to verify my status, they can do so with that number. While the VS-9 looks all official-like, and does prove your NPIP status, that is not its purpose--it is for gov't. tracking purposes. Me personally, I wouldn't sweat it. Just make sure you don't leave your pullorum & AI papers at home when you go to shows & swaps!
