WV Spring ChickenStock Sat. April 24 8-12 TSC Martinsburg

May 1st in Glen Allen, VA. There is a thread on it. You should go Tonya. You can see what a poultry show looks like too. Several bycers will have birds in the show. I hear the swap is great and I will have orpies and silkies entered in the show.

On a different note: Jonathan's fiancée Tiffany had a liver transplant on Sunday. So far so good. Please keep them in your prayers. They have a long row to hoe. God is so good to us.

I hope she makes it through with flying colors. He is a nice guy I wish them both the best.
I will have to see. I would like to go to one and check things out. I'll look for the thread thanks

Well I got there at 7:59 and could hardly unload the van! I had so many people storming me as soon as I got there.
I came from MD too. I drove almost 2 hours to get there, and was sold out in under 2 hours!!

As for the sea of chickens.... well if all of our baby chicks were full grown adults it would have been a sea!!... its just a lot easier to bring tiny chicks

This is the second year doing this. It was a lot larger than last year. I think next year will be even better. But I hope we do it at 9 or 10 am.

9 or 10 am would give farmers time to get their am work done and more people that would show up (late sleepers or people driving to get there.) The ? is would TRS let us use there parking lot for those hours? Maybe if we moved more to one side Left or right and leave the middle for their customers to park? Looks like I might have a Welsummer roo maybe to 2 Cochin crosses we keep as chicks just to see what they would look like grown. To young to sex them yet. 1 is BLK the other Gold for now till it gets it's feathers. Maybe 1 Lt. Blue Maran roo(3wks) he does not seem to care for me

Already acting rooish- Only to me!

So that is why I could let him go. If any one should want him I'm sure Peachick will have a girl for him at the fall sale.
I'm praying my 4 month old BLRW will start laying by then and I can get a few in the bator.

I'll be getting more for the breeding flock too. Dif. bloodlines. Tammy I might just go and get my Lav roo from Sandy this weekend. Not for sure yet so I might still try to go to the show. If hubby would take me. I suck trying to find places like that. Unless I know the area or have been there before.
Good luck at showing your birds incase I miss this one.

If you see Sandy tell her I said hello. She is a very special lady. Hopefully, Sandy and I will get together again sometime soon. But...hopefully, your hubby will take you to Glen Allen. There won't be anything that I know of this size until November within a 3 hour drive. Dave knowing that he is off the hook after this one is the only reason he is going

I got there around 10:00, and told my wife that next time it's 8:00 am or bust....

I have an incubator full of delawares, blue and black copper marans, wels, dominiques, and some mutts, but unfortunately, they won't start hatching until THIS weekend (lockdown today). I had forgotten about the swap until last week, so my timing was off.

I also sell heritage rabbits. So, I could bring them along if there is one in the fall? No registering or anything, just show up?

I do have a question about the NPIP rules. All of my original stock has come from NPIP certified sources. Do I still need to test, or have some kind of paperwork, or is the entire flock considered NPIP?
Same rules apply for hatching eggs?

thanks,
tom

Hey Tom, yes you would still need to get the testing. Jonathon, our tester, was onsite or you can get npip in WV for free. The only catch is you have to keep current on your testing (2 x a year) and only purchase birds from fellow npip flocks. All hatcheries are npip.

There are no other rules! Just show up and claim your space and sell your chicks and bunnies. Unfortunately, there seems to be a surplus of buyers and not enough sellers. We get cleaned out early. I try very hard to reach out to our local farming community by posting flyers, advertising on craigslist, The Journal, the Shepherdstown Chronicle and the Buyers Guide. I also posted an ad on eggbid and got a couple vendors that way. They keep trickling in and, hopefully, next year will be even better!

I was pretty worried it was going to rain so, we were thinking of having the swap at the Jefferson Co. fairgrounds next year to have use of the barn. What do y'all think?

I think something like that would be great. I am not sure if that would be good for people traveling to sell/buy. Would Berkeley Co. let us use their fairgrounds?
Also does anyone know the guy selling hen saddles? Hubby did not tell me there was any till after the sale was over. I need some I have 8 up and coming roos. my pullets and hens will need them!
