WWYD? INTFERTILE?? Eggs??

I think they mean for you to crack them open to see the spot, but I may be mistaken.

Problem is, there's no way he can assure you they were fertile when he shipped them and there's no 100% sure way you can tell they weren't fertile when he sent them. :-(

If an egg is fertile, it should have the characteristic bullseye for the white spot on the yolk by the time it leaves the hen. If it is not fertile, it will look like a store-bought one. Even if X-rays kill the embryo during shipment, the white bullseye should remain as evidence of fertilization.

Ive had really bad luck with shipped eggs- only 2 of about 60 have hatched for me. I do just what everyone says- I let them settle before putting them in the incubator. I hatch my own eggs with 95%+ success, so I know what I'm doing

. It must be the Maine central post office, because nobody seems to have luck as bad as mine /:

I am sorry your eggs didn't hatch. I would think the seller should at least offer to ship more eggs for just the cost of shipping...it would be the right thing to do.

I was looking at the picture you posted and I am a complete newb when it comes to raising chickens but to me it looks fertile. Am I incorrect? I am not trying to make a case for anything or contradict anyone. I am just trying to learn more.

I searched the net to try to see if I was right and on this web site the picture of the Stage VII embryo looks just like the picture you posted. So was it fertile?

Here is the link to that web site in case anyone wants to see...(It's the Figure 2 pic half way down the page.)
