I thought they were ugly when I first saw them. Didn't understand why people would keep them. Then my son picked one out when we went to get some pullets from a fella in Greeley CO. He had several and gave us one...we named her Nancy. I thought she was soo ugly. Then after watching her a bit and seeing her personality come out, we all fell in love with her. She lays a nice brown egg daily, has been broody only once and makes the sweetest little sounds. She just stole our hearts. So this year we ordered more from the hatchery so she wouldn't be the only one in our flock. I have now seen where people have also made NN Easter Egger chicks...so dang cute. But I really love the showgirls and would love to have a few just for eye candy.

I also raise Lav Orpingtons, Lav Ameraucaunas, and am trying to get frizzles LOL . I will try to post pics of the ones that I do have, oh also hatched out Gambel's quail as well as coturnix.

I love the look of the Lav Orps. They are quite regal in that photo. Yesterday and today I hatched out six Cream Legbars...they are super cute.

Hello all following wyomingites. Live right on the border of idaho and wyoming in Freedom just south of Jackson. First year raising chickens. Have 2 red stars, 2 ameraucana, 1 australorp, 1 ancona and 1 plymouth rock roo just picked him up yesterday. Looking to hopefully add some silkies and Mille fleurs someday.

Welcome to BYC and to chicken keeping. If you are already thinking ahead about what breeds you want, then you have for sure been bitten by the chicken bug. I have some silkie eggs in my incubator now, along with some showgirl and shizzle eggs. Hoping for good looking showgirls. I just sold some EE pullets to a fella over in Big Piney. He was here in Casper working for a few days and today they are making the trek back across the state to Big Piney, he was commenting on going so far for chickens...I had to laugh because a few weeks ago we drove to Rexburg ID for some hatching eggs. I love my chickens and enjoy having the incubator and brooders full.

I have been reading up and thinking about trying to hatch my own eggs, it's just a matter of buying the incubator and ordering up some eggs now. Not sure if I want to bite the bullet and just got for it because I think it will be to addicting once I have

I will just warn you it is addicting. I bought an incubator this spring...It is supposed to hold about 2 dozen eggs. My first hatch was from my neighbors barnyard mix of eggs. I hatched 17/17 eggs....but it was clear that there was not as much hatching room in there...then this led to well I could hatch in one and incubate in another...so I bought a second incubator, one that can hold about 48 eggs. I have had them running pretty much non stop since April. Right now I am down to only one running, it has the silkie/showgirl/shizzle eggs in it and I think of the nine that were sent, I think 3 have quit. I have a love hate relationship with shipped eggs, that is why I drove to Idaho to pick up the eggs. Dealing with detached air sacs from poor handling is heartbreaking when you pay a lot of money for eggs.

I was looking at one of the Brinsea small incubators that hold like 10 eggs. I am trying too hold off til next spring so I can try hatching my own to possibly double my flock next year.

Well I'm going to Wheatland on saturday to the livestock sale up there. Hoping to get some Guineas for pest erradication purposes. Everyone I know just rolls their eyes. lol There goes Danielle and her animal addiction!

Love the Lav Orps. Have any chicks??? I want a few orps and a few EE's to complete my chicken flock. My duck flock is done. Having an awful time with the duck pond leaking. If it doesn't work this time around I told my husband I was going to shoot the ducks and eat them. Hoping I don't have to back down from that threat.
