Hi all,

So sad to share this X-Ray of my sweet Barnevelder hen, Barnie.

Last Wednesday, I lost Lacie, my Silver Laced Wyandotte, presumably to heat. Barnie and Lacie came from the same shipment of birds from a hatchery in New Mexico a little less than a year and a half ago.

Today, Barnie was acting puny, not eating, with her tail down. So I took her to the vet and they took an X-Ray. The vet thinks Barnie has two tumors, but they look like eggs to me.

When we got home today I did the Spa Treatment, which perked her up a bit, and she ate some. But she is very sickly now. My heart is breaking.

In hindsight, Barnie has laid only one egg in the last couple of weeks, but part of that I thought was due to the extreme heat and that she spent a few days boarding at the vet when I was on a trip. She's been suffering from bumblefoot for the last couple of months and been on antibiotics much of that time off and on. She had to board at the vet so they could give her the antibiotics while I was gone.

Thanks for any experience, strength and hope.

I hope everyone is getting through this summer heat with minimal problems with their hens.

Wish I had answers for you. I wouldn't think there'd be 2 fully developed eggs in her tract at once, but I admit I'm ignorant of what chicken x rays are supposed to look like.

I'm sorry you are dealing with this...
:hugs

Sorry for your loss and now that you other hen is very sick. Those look like tumors or possibly lash egg material, but I am an amateur at xrays. I would try to keep her comfortable and feed her what she likes. If she dies I would do a necropsy and take pictures of what you find inside, and post them here. Your state poultry vet could do a necropsy as well if the body is kept cool, but not frozen.
