Ya ever see something an just think..... WHY!

Well I think it looks odd but...

Billfields, we are a bunch of picky chicken raisers who think it is a bit ridiculous, thus the laughter.

And I don't think the builder remembered the roosts!

I dunno. I'm still very new to this forum but I just don't see how it is any more ridiculous than lots of others here. I think flower boxes on a coop are a tad odd but to each his own. Seems to me like a nice little coop. Better workman ship than I can manage I'm sure with some thought put into thedesign. If you look closely the vent slats are set so that for rain to actually blow into the coop it would have to be coming at the slats dead straight on. Slats are wide enough that anything at any angle is going to get caught (so long as the slats are wider than the openings between them that is going to be true. I may try that...) There is a roost. runs above the nests with a droppings board under it. It is pretty near theedge, I might move it back a bit.

Not meaning to start a fuss, I just don't understand what people were seeing that is so bad. If this coop which seems to me to be well planned and and built and, in my opinion is very attractive, gets laughs I hesitate to ever show y'all my efforts! ;0)

I just don't understand what people were seeing that is so bad.

They went threw a lot of effort to make it stand without front legs.
The then made the roof float above the rest of the coop without any front supports. They also made the roof clear.

Again I ask my self WHY?

Well here I am again defending this guy without knowing him from Adam or knowing exactly why I am so onhis side! Hope he appreciates it. ;0)

I think the clear floating roof is great, espically with the angled front. It lets light in through the vent on the top while keeping the rain out. I have been contemplating the clear roofing. I see light advantages but I wonder if you can have too much light....epically thinking rooster and sunrise. As for the legs/no legs, if you look at, I dunno 50 or 60 % of the small coops here, they sit up somehow above the ground so that, in a run the chickens can get under the coop for that much more ground space. How that do that seems a matter of aesthetics Again some coops here have window boxes on them. Some have front porches and western motifs. Some have "antique" signs for fresh eggs or chicken feed. To all that, I ask myself WHY?

I give you the bad math but other than that, it's a nice little coop. Everybody might not like it but that's true of any coop you can find on here. I can't see a few digs for arithmetic bads but beyond that I don't see how it deserved the hard time it got. Not sure it is so great that it deserves the defense time I'm giving it but I have a soft spot for the underdogs. I might talk myself into a bid on it if I'm not careful!

I don't think the coop is weird either - just different. I do wonder about the stand, I guess you'd call it. It looks so elaborate I thought maybe you could raise or lower the coop with it.

The open panels on the roof make me wonder about predators getting in thru there.

It seems solidly made and and I think he didn't skimp on materials. It sounds corny but I think it was a labor of love.

It just seems overbuilt to me(stand & top clear panels) for so small a coop.

He was trying for a different look and he got it, I would guess the next one he does will have some refinements. He does mention having chickens.

Well I suppose this is on lucky forum, there are always two sides to the argument! I would not place the roost over the nesting boxes. Hopefully the buyer will tell us about it. Then we will know if it was a good design.

I thought maybe it was going to catapult off of that base or something. It is youtube.... I expected some action.

Funny about the dog leaving! I didn't get that far.

I think he made the video for his Ebay auction and then posted it on Youtube ('cause he is clearly proud of his work) thus the lack of action. Ebay is less far less cool with things blowing up! <grin> Worth reading the fellow's Ebay description where he talks about, along with the fact that he keeps chickens, why he choose the design. Says he will be building a ramp and putting chains on the nesting box lid and adding another perch and slide door up front. He correct ed himself on the math...and notes today "I'm updating again due to some pretty mean and rude comments and emails made and sent to me with some being constructive to down right awful. Let me just clarify that you are bidding on a 4ft.high x 4ft. wide x 4ft.deep internally measured housing with three nesting boxes and two 4ft.long perches. You decide on how many chickens to what ever you'd like to have in it. It is a beautifully built design that I hope somebody enjoys for many years. Thank you."

If you look at the rest of his Youtube videos looks like they are all of kids playing in a band. Assuming thebuilder is the dad but if it was the 14 or 15 year old kid learning to play base who built this I am TOTALLY impressed!!

Bill

I also thought that the Roof like moved forward to make a covered run or something. It is beautifully built that it for sure. I wish that I could build something that well. It is a little different than a lot of coops we see, but it is this guy's idea of a great coop. Maybe it is a modern contemporary coop for some of the modern type homes. May have found a niche market
