Congratulations By the way!
Whew! Finally my first cochin is out of its shell 36 hours after pip!
Sorry for the long delay in responding ranchhand, but reading your chronicles helped me stay sane, when I couldn't actually post from my webphone. It first pipped yesterday afternoon, I was scared to death the membrane would dry and it would be stuck, so then I tried to remove a tiny piece of the shell (BAD me!) and made it bleed. I disobeyed the 'HANDS OFF'! Rule. The humidity is okay still. I misted the egg about 3 times, then whoa and behold the chick popped out on the other side! (It used the back door since the front was stuck). And I need to be flogged for not leaving well enough alone! I have one other pipped, but I think I hear another peeping! I set them on a Sunday evening about this time, so I'm right on the money! I'll post pics when they're in the brooder!
YAY! 1 hatched, 1 pipped, and 4 more to go! We'll see if they're all blue cochins, or if there's some cochin/favorelle crosses in there.
