Thank you

That's great! I read the genetic color pattern info on IYAK's site (I read most of the site, actually). If I had trim cows, I'd have a 50/50 shot at royal calves... not too shabby

. A royal bull calf is indeed a nice surprise

Do you have pics of him?

Yes, I do. Here's one that was taken right after he was born:

And here's a pic that was taken just a couple of weeks ago while he was playing with my dog:

Illia, I know that Green Bay Yakkers has a golden named Daisy. There's a guy in Maine named Chris Devaney who has a whole herd of Golden Royals. My husband and I went to visit him this past Summer while we were vacationing in Maine. He's kind of a recluse, but a really nice guy. He had not heard of the term 'Golden' before, and he called his yaks Maine Royals. They were very pretty animals.

Aww He is precious

We're in a total blizzard right now... not a fan! Hope that ground hog was right about an early spring.

I can't wait to pick him up next week

His breeder is working with him a lot on getting into a small ranch panel pen that we'll use to load him up.

Anyone know a recipe for "wet roll" apparently it's oats and molasses.

Cool! Be sure to check out Vermont Yaks. They have info all over the place, including videos on YouTube. They have some pretty animals.

I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to raise some Yak but I've been told they would not do well in western Oregon, needing the extreme cold and snow. I have a penchant for all things Tibetan

as you can see by the breed of dog I've been addicted to for almost 34 years! (Tibetan Mastiff)

Well, it's been a while, but I have a small starter herd of yak now! We got them Feb/March, but I never updated this. The bull(big horns, lots of white) is 27 months old, the larger royal heifer is 24 months, and the 3 smaller heifers are all yearlings.

Beautiful!! I so wish I could keep Yak here in western Oregon but had to settle for Scottish Highlands who can handle the extreme rain and moisture.

If you know anyone who successfully keeps Yak in western OR, please let me know. The list of breeders are in central OR where its snowy in the winter. Here, it snows very little and rains a LOT!!
