Hello all you chicken people
,
My family is Brand New to this whole idea of Hen ownership and what it takes to care for and manage a coop of Hens/chicken. See I am not even sure what you call them......LOL. How this happened was we went over to our neighbors house who had 2 Hens, this is all it took for my wife and 5 yr old daughter to be get some new family members. I have no doubt we will be good owners and what a great experience for my daughter to be involved with pet ownership, other than our cat, cats are pretty easy to own.
So I have a few questions in regards to space needed for them. I only want 2-3 Hens for now, so the coop and run I have pretty well figured out, but is the yard and what will happen to my yard, outside of the coop/run area. Do you leave them out all day to free range in the yard. And if so does your yard get destroyed? I have a fairly nice yard and would like to try and keep it that way. I am a very clean person and do not mind cleaning out the coop every weekend or so if that is what is takes, I need a hoppy and LOVE to putz around doing stuff, so that is not my issue. It is my yard/grass....will it all die!?
I am really OK with owning the chickens and getting the advantages of owning them, just got some yard questions.
