My very first egg! Just thought I would send out a message to all my friends waiting for their first egg! It happened today! Came home from work at lunch and heard my other 5 chickens making a racket I’m like I’m missing one. Well my little E.E “Alfredo” was in the nest box rooting her head around in the hay. I’m like hmmm interesting. Went back in to have lunch came back to check on them and guess what?!?! A beautiful little pale aqua egg!

I’m thrilled! I knew we were getting close. She is 23 weeks old...I thought for sure my Buff Orp or Barred Rock would lay first as they are bigger and look more mature. Nope! It was little Alfredo.

You know we had talked about getting chickens for a long time. But we officially decided to during the Covid lock down.

It’s been a great diversion the past few months. Building the coop, hand raising them, enjoying their antics in the yard...and now the first egg! I have to say I love having chickens! I don’t think most people realize how enjoyable they are to have around!

Beautiful! You can tell who layed by measuring the distance between the pelvic bones and seeing how large the vent opening is compared to the others
