I had a lamb once and she slept in a box besides my bed because we didnt have a pen for her yet and every hour in the nigth she'd bleat to see if i was still around and i'd have to put my hand in the box and stroke her so she'd settle down
That bring back memories ...... about 15 months ago my daughter found a lamb at our block of land. She went for a walk with a young duck- and came back carrying the new born lamb. It turns out the lamb was one of twins- the other one didnt make it. The mother entered a gulley on my property to give birth. She got back out- but the lambs were not strong enought for the climb back out.
We went into town and got powdered milk and some second hand blankets. Wilson slept beside my daughter in a box on the lowest shelf of a bookcase that night. She had to sleep with her hand in the box with him too. The second night we were back home in the city. At 1am my daughter came to wake me- she was crying- "mum... it wont stop" Poor miss 12 wasnt up for the care of a newborn lamb. She was stressed and passed the lamb over to me. I gave it a bottle- a cuddle, and tucked it into bed- and Wilson proptly fell asleep.
I explained that little Wilson just needed comfort and to know where you were. When you stress out, a baby can sense it- so thats why the lamb wasnt settling down or feeding properly. We only has him for a few more days before finding a local hobby farmer who could take him. I have always vowed since to never allow a lamb in my house again. Although very cute- they need so much attention.
Awwww that is cuuute! lol Snowy (what i called her) kept trying to jump on my bed to sleep with me so i had to try and make the box bigger and push it away from my bed a lil. Lasted a few nights for me of lamb-in-house sleeping (the things i do for animals
) she followed me everywhere, in the paddocks, around the back yard, and when it was feed time she used to do maddies around the backyard bucking
it was so funny to watch.
Sadly we had her staying at a friends farm with a couple of lambs for a little while (cant remember the reason) and there was bad weather (thunder storm). Sheep get pretty stupid and she went and slept outside her lil coop in the weather. It killed her
Oh no. Thats so sad. But yes- they are silly sometimes. We took ours to a hobby farm that has organised school visits. . We went back for a visit a month later to see how Wilson was going. Unfortunaltely his pen mate had died during the night. But we got to spend the whole day with him. They have a tractor with a caged trailor on the back with seats in it. They take you all over the farm with the tractor to see all the animal. Wilson rode with us everywhere. And walked behind me everywhere I walked too. It was very sad to say good bye at the end of the day. But I know he was being well cared for. Lickily they have a no kill policy on the farm, so I know he will have a visit every day from school children handing out hay and treats.
