Yay! Hatching eggs and tryin' out incubators! (Pic of ducks :) 8th p)

This morning, I moved the first batch of eggs into the homemade-hatcher. I am so incredibly nervous

I have stayed cool, calm, and collected through this whole thing (well....mostly

NONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONO!!!!! I think I killed them

I just went to check the hatcher and it was 120*F

<---- it must have been that hot for them!! I threw the lid open (which lost my much-need-humidity) and turned it off, until I got it back down to around 98*F.
The thing that confused me was that it did not feel like 120*F in there, but I don't see how my thermometer could have been that much 'off'. And if my thermometer was that much 'off' then, that would mean it is that much 'off' all the time, so that makes me worry more!

Oh no! How long do you think it might have been that high? Maybe the temp. in the eggs didn't get up that high. It's also possible your thermometer decided to wig out and it was reading false? Do you have a couple of thermometers you could put together to check consistancy?

Thanks.
I'm almost positive it couldn't have been that high for more than an hour and 1/2.
It's a brand new thermometer, but I guess that could be good OR bad. Good, because it hasn't had a chance to get damaged. But bad, because I haven't really gotten to test it...
I only have three thermometers, and they are all in use - one in this hatcher, one in the incubator, and one in the brooder.

I would take the one out of the brooder and stuff it in there. You can tell if the chicks are warm enough by their behavior. That way you will know if the new thermometer is off. Hopefully it had just jumped to that temp. and they are all ok.
