My andalusian hen was being snotty a little bit ago and jumped one of the australorp hens...had her by the feathers on the back of the neck and was on top of her. The australorp was yelling bloody murder! The roo rushes over to the fray, grabs the andalusian by the head and yanks her bodily off the australorp. The chickens go back to eating the scratch and dried egg shells I put out for them and the andalusian just stands in the back part of the yard as if in shock.

A few minutes later, the bantam cochin goes over to the andalusian (they have been together since pullets) and the andalusian jumps the cochin! Here comes the roo to the rescue...again he grabs the andalusian literally throwing her off the little cochin. He looks at the andalusian as if to say "I'm not taking any more #%^ from you". The andalusian goes back to eating scratch and I leave all in peace.

3 cheers for the EE rooster! I think I will call him Zorror....he is mostly black, very flashy and now a hero.

That is one good roo I am jealous my red one stays in the nests and pecks your butt. He is scared of every thing he will be the next Cadet at freezer camp.

good roos are a must. my boy is the greatest protector and provider i have ever seen. just another example of how life is too short for mean animals especially males for breeding

I find I'm wanting to apply this to so many non-chicken situations....

You sure that Andalusian's a hen? O.o

But good boy Zorro!

Here's pic...actually for awhile I wasn't sure it was a he. He has never shown aggression and only recently started to crow a bit.

and the andy is a hen...lays nice white eggs....her attack wasn't sexually motivated - it was her being a bossy hen
