I started roost training my 5.5-week-old chicks two days ago. Before that they were spending the night in a portable pen inside the coop, on the floor, for about a week (transitioning from the brooder). Well two days ago we took away the pen and manually put them up on the lower roost.
Last night, the chicks went all the way to the top roost by themselves but were chased down by the hens. We put them back inside the coop. Three of four put themselves on the lower roost, we helped the fourth back up.
Tonight, I went to do a bedtime check and this is what I found!:
