Yea!!!! I got my first eggs today!!!!

I've been away for a few days. Its a beautiful day so I went to let the chickens out to free range and to my surprise I found 4 eggs!!!!!! My first eggs I'm sooo excited!!! She's not laying in the nestbox though, will that come in time?

Since this is all new to me I do have some ?'s

How does the process work from eggs to chicks? How long can you store eggs from when found in coop to fridge? Do you do anything to the eggs before storing them? Now that she's laying what do I need to make sure she's eating? Thanks sorry for all the newbie questions.

How exciting! If you put fake eggs in the nest box it may help them know where you want them to lay them. How old are your chickens?

I've had several hens misfire the first egg outside of the nest box. But something draws them to a place where they are alone and feel safe. I think she will start using a nest box soon. Way to go on the first eggs! My first egg came in a snowstorm and was laid by my front steps...along way from the coop. I think my border collie found it in the yard. It was a double yolker too! What a happy day that was! I'm sure you danced a little happy dance.
